It's no secret that pom poms are everywhere these days. It seems like every bag, piece of jewelry, or accessory has either pom poms or tassels hanging off of them. I love them so it's totally ok with me! I wanted to find a way to make pom poms so that I could easily change out the colors on my tote whenever I want (I like to change my mind a lot, what can I say!)

To get started, you'll need some yarn,
scissors, and your hand. Pretty easy. These are actually way easier than I expected them to be.

Cut a piece of yarn about 24" long, fold it in half, and lay it down in front of your working area. If you're making multiple pom poms, you'll want these pieces to be different lengths so all of the poms don't hang at the exact same length on your bag.

Take the end of the yarn and place it in your palm with your fingers not super tight together.

Start wrapping the yarn your fingers over and over again.

You'll want to wrap it around about 90ish times, depending on how fluffy you want your pom to be.

Once you've wrapped it enough times, cut the end of yarn so your hand is free.

Pull the yarn carefully off of your fingers and place it on the piece of yarn you cut initially. You'll want the yarn to be closest to the end with both cut ends, not the looped end.

Tie a knot tightly around the pom and then tie another knot. Once you've done that, turn the pom around, bring the yarn around to the other side and repeat the same steps.

Now it's time to cut all of the loops of the pom on both sides setting them free and creating the full pom.

Feel free to clean up the pom with scissors if there are some uneven parts.

I hope this tutorial helps you and you create cute poms for all of your accessories!

Sarah
